Burn Valley 1/2
This Half Marathon is very scenic, but is one of the toughest runs in the UK, its an undulating course with some tough climbs and very few flat stretches, even the downhill stretches test your levels of fitness.
This years race is under a new organizing committee and there are a number of changes on the day, unfortunately the course remains the same, we have increased the prize list, and there will be a team of 9 photographers round the course who will be relaying photos back to the Town Hall to show on a big screen. You will be able to watch the screen during the period before the presentations so you can enjoy your tea and look at how the race went.
There is a new off road Fun Run course.
A new race car park at I'Ansons Mill, just a 5 min walk to the start area in Masham main square.
The system for obtaining your teas has also changed, we have issued all runners with a tea ticket which you will present at the door to Tea Room in Masham Town Hall, you will then go in and collect a tea plate with a variety of sandwiches and cakes leave that room and go upstairs to the presentation area where you can obtain a cup of tea. There will be vegetarian options available.
Can I also inform you that the Race Referee will be noting anyone who has changed or cut down their number, numbers show the runners gender, this is to assist the results team in providing a quick results turn round. So if you come in with your number not showing if you are a male or female you are liable to be disqualified, this not a Burn Valley rule but a UK Athletics rule.
We have also been notified by UK Athletics that if you wear an i-pod when you are taking part in a race and have an accident during the race you will invalidate any insurance cover, the assumption is you are unable to hear approaching vehicles or marshal's instructions. So if you wear an i-pod you will be running at your own risk. This law will be a lot tougher next year with immediate disqualification.

Sorry about all the rules and regulations but the bureaucratic lunatics are gradually taking over the asylum!.
Hope you all have a good run, the weather is not too hot and that you enjoy the experience that is the BURN VALLEY RUN.
See you all Saturday
